Smoky, rustic, and Highland to its core, the Ardmore 19 Year Old Batch 9 from That Boutique-y Whisky Company is a superbly balanced single malt that showcases Ardmore’s signature peat-meets-honey style — matured nearly two decades to reach a confident, complex character. The nose opens with a gentle wood smoke, more hearth-fire than bonfire, alongside notes of dried hay, grilled lemon, and toasted cereal. Subtle aromas of manuka honey, leather satchel, and heather blossom add both sweetness and earthiness, giving it a uniquely rugged-yet-refined appeal. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, oily, and expressive. You’ll find flavours of burnt toffee, smoked malt, and roasted nuts, balanced by baked apple, black tea, and a touch of menthol. The peat is well-integrated — not dominant, but persistent — weaving through the sip like threads of smoke curling from a chimney on a cold morning. The finish is long and warming, with lasting impressions of sooty oak, dried herbs, and sweet tobacco, fading gently into ash-dusted honeycomb and a flicker of mineral salinity.
