A whisky from the past, the Cambus 28 Year Old by That Boutique-y Whisky Company is a beautifully matured single grain from one of Scotland’s legendary silent stills. Closed in 1993, Cambus left behind a legacy of elegant, long-aged grain whisky — and this expression captures its subtlety, sweetness, and serene complexity after nearly three decades in oak. The nose is graceful and mellow, opening with aromas of vanilla cream, baked custard, and polished oak furniture. Hints of coconut flakes, lemon oil, and toffee popcorn rise slowly, giving way to delicate notes of old leather, dried mango, and floral tobacco. On the palate, it’s silky and layered — flavours of crème brûlée, banana bread, and butterscotch sauce emerge first, followed by more mature tones of cedarwood, green tea, and a soft spice box warmth. The texture is luxurious and oily, with the age showing in its elegant wood integration and richness. The finish is long and soothing, fading with notes of vanilla pod, white chocolate, and a whisper of dried papaya and oak dust. There’s no rush — it lingers gently, like the memory of a refined conversation.
