The Chief’s Son 5 Year Old opens with a bold and inviting nose that bursts with dark fruits and rich, toasted oak. Aromas of black cherry, plum jam, and sticky toffee pudding are layered over cocoa powder and roasted coffee beans. There's an undercurrent of spicy oak and a faint saline touch that hints at the distillery’s coastal location. On the palate, the whisky is full-bodied, robust, and confidently rich. The initial wave delivers thick caramel, dark chocolate ganache, and cinnamon-dusted raisins. Hints of molasses and charred oak emerge alongside toasted walnuts and cracked black pepper, providing a spicy warmth and structure. Despite its age, it carries a maturity beyond the number, with velvety tannins and excellent cask influence. The finish is long and warming, lingering with notes of espresso, dried figs, and dark brown sugar. A smoky char and faint earthy dryness appear at the tail end, adding complexity and depth.
