A bold and expressive American rye, the Dad’s Hat 6 Year Old bottled by That Boutique-y Whisky Company brings Pennsylvania’s rich rye whiskey tradition to life with a modern twist. Crafted with a mashbill heavy on rye and matured for six full years, this release goes beyond the typical spicy rye bite — offering complexity, balance, and old-world character with contemporary energy. The nose is punchy and aromatic, bursting with cracked black pepper, clove, and cinnamon bark, layered over dried cherries, toasted rye bread, and a faint touch of sarsaparilla root. Subtle hints of leather, caraway seed, and dill add depth and distinct rye authenticity. On the palate, it is robust and chewy. Flavours of dark toffee, black tea, and molasses unfold with structure, supported by zesty orange peel, anise, and a crisp backbone of oak spice. The grain-driven character shines throughout, offering earthy richness and rye-forward complexity. The finish is dry, spicy, and persistent — lingering with notes of rye husk, vanilla pod, and a subtle echo of spearmint and baking spice. It’s a serious rye lover’s dram — assertive, structured, and layered with flavour that rewards slow sipping and closer attention.
