Bright, structured, and confidently English, the English Whisky Co. 9 Year Old from That Boutique-y Whisky Company is a superb mid-aged expression that captures the refined maltiness and light fruit tones characteristic of England’s pioneering distillery. At 9 years old, it sits in a sweet spot — showing more maturity than younger releases while retaining freshness and vibrancy. The nose is clean and gently layered, with notes of crunchy green apple, pear skin, and vanilla sponge, accented by lemon peel, light honey, and a soft malty backbone. Hints of hay, almond blossom, and subtle oak polish round it out with elegance. On the palate, it’s smooth and gently oily, revealing flavours of barley sugar, apple crumble, and shortbread, followed by mild baking spice, ginger snap, and a touch of toasted oak. The balance between spirit and cask is precise, offering warmth without overshadowing the distillate’s delicacy. The finish is medium in length, clean and slightly drying, with lingering notes of vanilla pod, cereal biscuit, and a whisper of peppery oak.
