Fary Lochan 6 Year Old – Batch 2 opens with a deeply evocative and earthy nose that instantly sets it apart. There’s a unique combination of forest floor dampness, fresh-cut pinewood, and gentle smoke—reminiscent of a Scandinavian woodland after rainfall. Herbal tones like nettle and thyme intertwine with cocoa dust, roasted malt, and toasted hazelnuts, offering both depth and familiarity. On the palate, this Danish single malt is medium-bodied with an oily texture that carries bold, savory flavors. The signature use of nettle-smoked barley imparts a subtle vegetal smokiness, distinct from peat, more herbal than medicinal. Flavors of caramelized brown sugar, dried fruits, and roasted coffee beans emerge alongside notes of charred oak and dark chocolate. A peppery, warming spice builds toward the mid-palate. The finish is long, warming, and slightly drying, leaving impressions of licorice root, smoldering herbs, and black tea tannins. A delicate bitter-sweet balance lingers, making the sip memorable and complex.
