A graceful Highland dram with a sherried soul, the Glengoyne 17 Year Old from That Boutique-y Whisky Company captures the distillery’s signature unpeated elegance while adding a boutique twist through careful cask selection and patient aging. On the nose, it offers a rich, inviting aroma of dried figs, caramel-glazed apples, and orange peel, wrapped in soft notes of nutmeg, polished oak, and toffee pudding. There’s a mellow depth, with hints of marzipan and a touch of sherry-soaked raisins hinting at its cask heritage. The palate is silky and full-bodied, layering demerara sugar, dark honey, and baked plum tart with elegant waves of cinnamon spice, walnut oil, and dried apricot. Mid-palate, there’s a gentle swell of vanilla bean, milk chocolate, and a dusting of clove, giving the whisky a warm and sophisticated complexity. The finish is long, luxurious, and soothing — leaving lingering notes of fruitcake, sultanas, and a soft oaky spice. It’s a whisky that rewards slow sipping, reflecting Glengoyne’s unhurried distillation and TBWC’s knack for showcasing character through age.
