A rare and dignified dram, the Imperial 25 Year Old from That Boutique-y Whisky Company is a true relic of Speyside’s quiet past. Distilled at the now-demolished Imperial distillery — closed in 1998 and demolished in 2013 — this elegant single malt captures the graceful, fruity style for which Imperial is fondly remembered. The nose is delicate and refined, opening with soft aromas of stewed orchard fruits, baked peach, and vanilla cream, intertwined with hints of lemon oil, toasted almond, and chamomile tea. Time in the glass reveals deeper layers of honeyed malt, polished oak, and a trace of white flowers. On the palate, it’s smooth, lightly waxy, and beautifully composed. Flavours of poached pear, shortbread biscuit, and orange blossom honey mingle with touches of ginger spice, dried apricot, and gentle oak tannin. The texture is silky, with that unmistakable softness of a long-aged Speysider. The finish is long, elegant, and quietly complex — lingering with notes of vanilla pod, lemon peel, and a final whisper of spiced apple and cedarwood.
