Smoky, maritime, and unmistakably Islay, the Islay Single Malt from That Boutique-y Whisky Company is a classic island dram—bold, briny, and full of character. Though the distillery remains a mystery, the whisky speaks clearly with its coastal roots and peat-driven soul. On the nose, it delivers bonfire smoke, iodine, and salty sea spray, followed by notes of lemon peel, bacon fat, and damp earth. Hints of charcoal ash, seaweed, and a touch of bandage box (a nod to medicinal peat lovers) add to its rugged charm. The palate is bold and oily, with rich waves of smoked barley, barbecued citrus, and black pepper, layered over a foundation of briny malt, sooty oak, and roasted nuts. There’s a subtle sweetness — perhaps honey glaze or burnt sugar — that softens the edges without compromising the intensity. The finish is long, dry, and warming, tapering through notes of embers, charred lemon rind, and a faint echo of seaweed and mineral salt. It lingers like a smoky breeze off the Atlantic coast — fierce yet familiar.
