Young, bold, and surprisingly expressive, the Rock Town 1 Year Old from That Boutique-y Bourbon Company offers a micro-aged take on craft American bourbon. Though only one year old, the intense Arkansas climate and small barrel maturation result in a whisky that drinks far older than its age statement suggests. The nose opens with a burst of toasted oak, caramel corn, and peanut brittle, supported by youthful tones of fresh sawdust, vanilla bean, and maple sugar. Hints of cinnamon toast, grilled peach, and baking spice reveal the active wood influence. On the palate, itβs bold and chewy, delivering flavours of charred oak, toffee apple, and molasses, layered with notes of brown butter, nutmeg, and rye spice. The high-grain intensity and compact ageing give it a dense, focused core. The finish is medium-length and spicy, with lingering notes of burnt sugar, clove, peppery heat, and a flicker of oak tannin.
